News from Shelburne Films . . .
Hello NEMGTR friends,
I want to alert you to a new video just released on The MG Cars Channel titled “MGs at Watkins Glen – Racing In the Streets.”
Although the event, The U.S. Vintage Grand Prix of 1994, happened 25 years ago, none of the footage has ever been seen before. This 41 minute documentary tells the history of road racing in America and how Watkins Glen became the venue to restart racing after the second world war. The first person experience of racing in the streets is related by drivers who competed in that first Watkins Glen Grand Prix. Plus, an icon of motorsports broadcasting, two MG historians and the son of Miles Collier help us understand those earliest days of road racing in this country. One of those historians is, of course, our own Dick Knudson. In addition to his remarks on the early history of MG racing in the main video, a separate video features the entire 6 minute interview with Dick, “UnCut.”
The vintage racing focuses on the 40th anniversary of the Collier Cup races for MGs. Beyond that, we experience a ride around the original road and street course with the sixty plus MGs on hand to re-enact the first Watkins Glen road race of 1948. This event 25 years ago was very important in saving the Vintage Collier Cup as a yearly event at Watkins Glen. There is much in “MGs at Watkins Glen – Racing In the Streets” to interest any MG or racing enthusiast.

David Lawley plans to run a story in the TSO in the future, but perhaps you could go ahead and spread the word that this video is available. A mention on the club website would be great.

Introduction of The New England MG “T” Register Vice Chairman
The New England MG “T” Register has been without a Vice Chairman since we lost our Co-founder and Vice Chairman in August of 1999. David Sander, the current chairman has been discussing the need for a Vice Chairman with the board of directors for several years. Both David and the board of directors felt the need to choose a Vice Chairman to assist the Chairman with the day to day operations of The Register. David asked the board of directors to consider someone who has a proven record of promoting The Register, someone who works well with people, someone who is organized, and someone who is capable of providing creative “outside the box” solutions to unique problems.
At the 2018 ABM the board suggested one person, and unanimously agreed to offer the position to Blair Weiss. The position was offered to Blair, who gladly accepted the position.
Blair is a second-generation member and has been an active member of the register for the last 15 years. Blair’s Register involvement goes back about 45 years, as he attended Register functions with his parents. His love of MGs started early as he watched his father commute to New York City in an MGA then an MGB and an MGBGT through the 70s. His first car was a 1970 MGBGT that he bought for $150 at the age of 15. Blair restored this car with the help of “Uncle” Dave Raymond before ever driving it.
Some years later after putting floors in a friend’s TR3 and then going for a test ride, within a mile Blair thought “We should go get the TD from my mom.” A couple of years later he restored the car just prior to GOF 73 in Nova Scotia where is won 1st place for the TD group.
Second to his love of the T series MG, is Blair’s love for the people who own the cars. He looks forward to GOFs to rekindle the friendships as well as making new ones and of course looking forward to seeing the cars. Anyone who has attended a GOF with Blair has experienced his kindness, generosity and friendship. Blair is quick to make people feel welcome, and lend a hand with a problem.
Blair lives with his wife Leslie in Peterborough New Hampshire with their dog Bree and their cats Smokey and Lucy.
Blair holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Rochester Institute of Technology and is currently employed as a Product Design Engineer at OSRAM Sylvania in Hillsboro NH. He currently holds four patents in automotive lighting.
When Blair is not designing light bulbs he can be found checking off items on the honey dew list, riding in MGs or motorcycles with Leslie or dirt biking with his step son Michael.

Parting is Such Sweet Sorrow....
As the early MG. owners of our group age and no longer drive their vehicles, the cars end up sitting unused. In other cases memories of the fun car, driver and the Register bonds fade and eventually the car is sold or passed on to family. Our dwindling NEMGTR member numbers show the results of this. The Register has always encouraged members to oiler a membership to their MGs new owner.
NOW the Register will offer FREE membership for both the seller and buyer!
When your MG gets passed on, simply submit the new owners contact information (name, address, phone number and email) to Jan Hurd, the NEMGTR Registrar membership_registrar [AT] nemgtr [DOT] org You both get a six month membership at no charge; an introduction to NEMGTR for the buyer and an extension for you to reminisce your MG ownership. For you the seller, submit your cars story (with or without photos) to The Sacred Octagon editortso [AT] rogers [DOT] com and extend your free membership for the year.
